Dokken – Broken Bones

Dokken was one of the leading Sunset Strip bands back in the early 1980’s. They were very influential when it came to ushering in the Hair Metal era that took over rock music later in that decade. They had a charismatic lead singer in Don Dokken and a guitar god in George Lynch that make this band huge. Over time, Dokken and Lynch began to hate each other, they broke up and they have fought, kissed and made up and then fought some more as time has gone on.

The current line up only features Don Dokken and drummer Mick Brown from the original lineup. Oddly enough, Brown is also featured on an upcoming release with Lynch and bass player Jeff Pilson, basically Dokken without Dokken. This should prove interesting.

Okay, back to this album… The disc starts out strong as “Empire” and “Broken Bones” are strong songs and give hope that we will get a complete album with no filler. By the time the fifth and sixth songs roll around, however, that hope is gone.

It is not that the music is bad, it is bland. It gets a bit boring. It is not that this is a horrible album… at times it rocks but it lacks that IT FACTOR, as a whole.

Don’s fans will love every note of it while the rest of us, not so much. File this one under Good Effort but keep it out of the Killer Album file.
