Randy Rhoads Remembered By Ozzy Osbourne Bandmate
http://www.antimusic.com/

Tuesday will be anniversary of the tragic death of legendary Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads and his friend and former Quiet Riot and Blizzard of Ozz bandmate Rudy Sarzo reflected on the beloved musician.

Rhoads was killed in plane crash on March 19th, 1982 while on the Blizzard of Ozz tour, which also featured Sarzo. During a chat with Music Radar Sarzo was asked what kind of guy of Randy was and Rudy responded, "My God. That's the million-dollar question. That is the number one question I get asked when I travel, and that's why I wrote Off The Rails, just to answer that. I'll put it this way: I can say what Randy means to me.

"If it wasn't for Randy, I would have never had the career that I've had, because he trusted me. This was the scenario: Ozzy was about 10 days away from going on the road, and they were in Los Angeles looking for a bass player. Not only a person that could play those songs, because there were many qualified musicians who could do that, but they needed somebody they could trust.

"I had already worked with Randy in Quiet Riot, so he told Sharon, 'Listen, Rudy is the perfect guy because he's not going to be a bad influence on Ozzy. He looks good, he's reliable, and he's going to be somebody decent to hang with in the bus'."

Rudy also said, "He trusted me. He put his reputation with Sharon and Ozzy on the line to bring me in. That's how I got in, because I had no track record. Ozzy and Sharon brought me in and I was able to build a career from that and I am eternally grateful both to them and to Randy."

Red Dragon Cartel's Phil Varone Announces Retirement
http://www.antimusic.com/

Former Skid Row and Saigon Kick and current Red Dragon Cartel drummer Phil Varone has announced that he is retiring from drumming following RDC's Patina Tour.

He had this to say, "This is my farewell to drumming tour. There is no big story other than I no longer have a passion for drumming. As I get older in my life, drums have fallen to the bottom of my list. As I get older in life, drums hurt instead of making me happy...When you're not happy or lose the passion in anything you do, it's time to gracefully bow out."

He continued, "After 30 years, I've done all I've wanted to do with music and will always be proud and grateful for my drumming career. They say the best time to leave is when you're on top, and playing with Jake E Lee and Red "Dragon Cartel is the Tops for me...I leave happily and gracefully after the Red Dragon Cartel 2019 PATINA World Tour that includes Japan. I have the best fans in the world, and I truly thank my fans from the bottom of my heart for the love, for the support and for being a part of my musical. I hope you follow me to the next chapter of my life, when the time comes...until then, thank you for 30 years a drummer..."

Graham Nash to Perform Songs For Beginners and Wild Tales in Full During Fall Tour

Legendary artist Graham Nash has announced select fall dates at which he and his band will perform both his debut and sophomore solo records - 1971’s Songs for Beginners and1973’s Wild Tales - in their entirety, plus other favorites. Those dates are South Orange, NJ’s South Orange Performing Arts Center on September 26, NYC’s Town Hall on September 27, as well as shows in Albany, NY on September 28 and Boston, MA on September 29. For ticket information visit: https://www.grahamnash.com.

Songs for Beginners, released in 1971, was Nash’s solo debut apart from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and was recorded in the immediate aftermath of Nash’s breakup with Joni Mitchell. On it are timeless classics like “Chicago/We Can Change the World” and “Military Madness” - a song that remains as relevant today as it was then - “I Used to Be a King,” “Simple Man,” and many others. Nash’s solo follow up was 1974’s Wild Tales, featuring beloved songs like "Oh Camil," "Prison Song,” "Another Sleep Song," and "I Miss You."

Nash said, "The experience of revisiting the music I made almost 50 years ago, live in front of an audience, gives me the chance to actually play the songs as was envisioned those many years ago. Each ‘side’ of the album was programmed as a short 20-minute suite, a musical journey to be taken not really knowing or caring where that journey would take the listener. I look forward to rediscovering my music and sharing it with the audience.”

Nash and friends will perform both albums in full plus favorites from his days in the Hollies through his years with Crosby, Stills & Nash and from his beloved solo recordings, weaving anecdotes and tales from his 50-year career throughout the evening.

No Depression proclaimed of a recent tour date, “Nash walked the audience through his catalog, a rich tapestry of music spanning more than five decades, accompanied by Shane Fontayne on guitar and vocals. Touring in support of his latest release, This Path Tonight, the strength of the material and the resilience in Nash’s voice made for a wonderful evening. And, as the crowd soon discovered, the new songs were every bit as vital as the classic anthems they came to hear."

Graham Nash is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and two-time Songwriter Hall of Fame Inductee, Grammy Award winner, a New York Times best-selling author, and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)

In 2018, he released Over the Years…, a 2-disc collection of Nash’s best-known songs from the past 50 years and more than a dozen unreleased demos and mixes.

On January 31, the UK Americana Music Association presented Nash with its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented to Nash by Hollies' co-founder, Allen Clarke. Past recipients of the award include Richard Thompson and Robert Plant.

Ozzy Osbourne Health Update Following Hospitalization
http://www.antimusic.com/

Ozzy Osbourne appears to be recovering well after he was hospitalized early last month in Los Angeles for "complications from the flu" which caused him to postpone tour dates.

The metal legend's wife Sharon and son Jack provided an update about his health during an interview with Access. Jack stated, "Well, if this gauges where he's at, he's complaining a lot and he's back to his normal routine, so everything's A-okay there. It's when he's happy and skipping around. You're like, 'There's something really wrong here. Call the doctor.'"

Sharon, who is also Ozzy's longtime manager added, "That's always a good sign, when he complains and he's miserable. Then you know it's good."

Ozzy canceled a tour leg in Australia, New Zealand and Japan after he was hospitalized, as well as postponing the UK and European leg. The dates are part of his epic No More Tours 2 final world tour.

Metallica Working On Music For New Album While On Tour
http://www.antimusic.com/

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo revealed the exciting news that the band has been jamming new song ideas while they embarked on their world tour and he expects their new album to come a lot quicker than previous efforts.

Trujillo spoke with The Music Podcast and in an excerpt of the chat, they quote him as saying, "We have a zone we call 'The Tuning Room' which is a space where we can jam and warm up before the show. We're always in there coming up with ideas and you may get a few seconds of an idea but everything is recorded, always. And then of course at home, everyone has got ideas."

He also said, "I'm excited about the next record because I believe it will also be a culmination of [Death Magnetic and Hardwired] and another journey. There's no shortage of original ideas, that's the beauty of being in this band."

Robert then promised, "It will come a lot sooner than the previous two did... this time around I think we'll be able to jump on it a lot quicker and jump in the studio and start working.

"We're all vowed to get this one going sooner than later. Now, how soon? I don't know. We've been touring non-stop. It's been over two years now. At some point, sure, we'll need to take a little bit of a break. It's sort of the right thing for us to do because we've been going so hard."

KISS Guitarist Was In No Win Situation Replacing Legend
http://www.antimusic.com/

KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer says that as years have gone by it has been earlier to deal with the drawbacks to having replaced original guitarist Ace Frehley in 2003.

Thayer spoke with the Argus Leader to promote the band's recently launched End Of The Road farewell tour and during the chat he touched on what it was like replacing the beloved band cofounder in the group.

He had this to say, "I have to be honest, when I first came into the band, there was some pressure.

"It was kind of a no-win situation when you're replacing somebody like that. There's a lot of fans who are unhappy with this and I understand. They followed the band for a long time and it's hard to see things like that change sometimes.

"After a few years went by, I got more confident and more comfortable in the situation, as time goes on, it continues to be a growing experience and something that I get more used to."
