Robert Plant and his Band of Joy took time on a snowy night in Nashville to record a performance that featured songs from their Grammy Nominated album, as well as several reworked Led Zeppelin classics. The result is a great concert featuring one of the most iconic rock vocalists of all time.
The best of the bunch are the Zep classics. While Plant does not even attempt the high notes anymore, he has put together a great band which features great vocals as well.
The Zeppelin classics were reworked in very interesting ways. “Black Dog” is very bluesy while “Houses of the Holy” and “Tangerine” remain closer to the original. “Ramble On” sounds fresh with the way the band mixes the Zep classics with their Americana type sound. “Gallows Poll” really works with this band, perhaps being the best performance of the night.
Other tunes, “Angel Dance,” “Cindy, I’ll Marry You Someday,” “Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down” and “Move Up” show the Band of Joy very comfortable with their style and sound. Plant’s solo classic “In the Mood” was a nice addition as well.
The film also contains a 20 minute interview with Plant as well as a bonus segment about the Tennessee War Memorial.
