Just when you think the old-style attitude that made rock ‘n’ roll great is dead and gone comes a new blues album by the Rolling Stones titled Blue & Lonesome.
Mick and the fellas sat down for three days in London and cranked out a blues set that is every bit as worthy of praise as their earliest albums. This one, their first studio album in a decade, shows the original bad boys of rock paying homage to their blues heroes… hopefully schooling a few hipsters to this genre of music in the meantime.
The album was recorded at British Grove Studio, not far from Richmond and Eel Pie Island where the band began playing in pubs. The Stones jam out on some of the greatest blues songs by some of the best artists ever, including Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf. The band consisted of Mick Jagger (vocals & harp), Keith Richards (guitar), Charlie Watts (drums), Ronnie Wood (guitar) and were joined by Darryl Jones (bass), Chuck Leavell (keyboards) and Matt Clifford (keyboards) as well. On two tracks the one and only Eric Clapton even joined the band!
This one will have you crying the blues in no time… and cranking it up to 10 all night long. The Rolling Stones are still pushing ahead and doing exactly what they want, just like back in the good ol’ days!
