Back in 2001, Uriah Heep went to work releasing two amazing albums that saw the then current lineup of the band paying homage to the band’s historic legacy.  The result was the critically acclaimed Acoustically Driven and Electrically Driven.  In preparation for that album, the band recorded the notably classic songs.  Once those albums were out, they released the pair as studio versions and called the album Remasters.  That album, long out of print, has been summarily rebranded as Totally Driven, a much better name that actually matches the two live releases.

The lineup at the time that these songs were recorded was the longest running lineup in Uriah Heep history and featured founding member Mick Box on guitar, drumming icon Lee Kerslake, keyboardist Phil Lanzon, vocalist Bernie Shaw and longtime bassist Trevor Boulder.  Sadly, Trevor has since passed away and Kerlake has retired from performing with Heep.

Totally Driven is the first album released on the band’s own record label, Uriah Heep Records.  The versions of the tracks proffered are just great.  The new recordings do justice to every song, just as the band does every night they perform on stage.  Bernie steals the show with his chops.  He does not try to mimic ex-Heepster David Byron, but he brings strong performances with tons of energy and his own unique sound.  The band plays like their lives depend on it, and the album is a must-own for any Heep fanatic.

Getting to hear the band with Lee and Trevor in the studio one more time is a treat and makes this release that more special.
