Dave Davies hit the road in support of his 2014 solo release titled Ripping Up Time.  When he stopped in New York City the red light came on and the performance was recorded for this live release.

The best of the latest studio album was included here with “Rippin’ Up Time,” “Front Room” and “King of Karaoke” being as strong as anything from Dave’s solo past.  The long lost Kinks tune “I’m Not Like Everybody Else” was pumped out harder than it’s ever been played, making it the true dark horse of the album.  Of course, “Where Have All the Good Times Gone,” “Death of a Clown,” “Livin’ On A Thin Line” “All Day and All of the Night” and “You Really Got Me” really got the crowd onto their feet, and were the high points of the evening. 

Don’t be fooled, however, as Dave Davies has some strong songs of his own.  He’s smart enough to throw The Kinks classics in the set but talented enough not to have to…well, he probably has to just because he’s a firm believer of giving the people what they want.  Let’s just say all the tunes go well together and make up a great concert.

Dave Davies has always been more fun to listen to in a live setting.  Something happens to him when he takes the stage.  His guitar seems more distorted and his voice more pained, performance more edgy. This one is part Punk and part Classic Rock, just as one would anticipate from the Hall of Fame guitarist.  Yep, the music of Dave Davies is still three to four chords with a side order of nasty solo! It’s a winning formula and this live album stays true to Dave’s other live efforts as it sounds best cranked up to ten and will leave one with a wide smile on their face.

Look at that…an entire article on Dave Davies and nary the mention of a Kinks reunion!  Oops! Well, until that happens Dave seems like he’s okay doing his own thing and this fun little live album proves he’s still worth the price of admission!
