How hard is it to let you, the readers of Classic Rock Revisited, know that the first three albums by Led Zeppelin have been newly remastered, each with an additional disc of previously unreleased versions of songs, and live versions of songs, and that they are all really, really, really damned good? Not hard at all. Nope, this is an easy review. Just go buy them, as you will totally be glad you replaced your single disc versions with these.
This is just the start, as eventually all nine Zep classics will get the same treatment. These three and the rest will all be, or have been, remastered by none other than Jimmy Page.
We already know that every song on Led Zeppelin I, Led Zep II and Led Zep III is great, but what about the bonus material on the other disc? What’s it like? Let’s just let Page tell you straight from his lips, to the Rhino press release, to this review. Take it away Jimmy…
“The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin. It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time."
There you have it. See, I told you. This is a no brainer. Unless you are a rap fan, concerned who Taylor Swift is breaking up with, totally deaf or just have terrible taste in music, then you need these CDs.
