George Thorogood rolled into Montreux and blasted out 35 years of his reengineered blues rock tunes to an appreciative crowd. Lonesome George may not look as handsome as he did back on his 1977 debut, but his gravelly voice and distorted slide guitar still slam home licks, riffs, snorts and snarls that have people dancing in the aisles, and this show was no exception.
Opening up with “Rock Party,” Thorogood gets the mood and the tone for an evening of good-time fun playing the lead guitarist, vocalist and emcee for the hootenanny that follows. “Bad to the Bone,” “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” “Get a Haircut,” “Move it On Over,” “Tail Dragger” and show ending “Madison Blues” make for a great concert, and the crowd is in agreement as they sway, swagger, cheer and fawn over George from the opening note to the backstage interview. This is one fun set of classic rock!
