Dave Stewart is most famous for being the trippy dude in the Eurythmics that wrote music and had scraggly hair in those MTV videos.  Yep, this is that Dave.  Aside from being that dude, he is also an incredibly gifted singer, songwriter, producer and all around artistic super humanly talented guy.  And, because he is so gifted, he has rolled the dice and released another amazing solo album titled Lucky Numbers.

You see, Dave Stewart is not only the “Sweet Dreams” guy; he is a blues lover, country music fan, and all around musical guru.  Damn, I just realized I am totally kissing his ass in this review.  Well, so be it.  The dude is good.  And while I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy an album by Martina McBride (I may be from Kansas, but country music, other than Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, makes me break out in crotch hives, which is no fun), Dave had her guest on the song “Every Single Night” and it is damn good.  Martina should do a rock album…that’s all there is left to say about it.

Elsewhere on the album, Stewart opens his soul and hits the listener with song after song of emotional brilliance.  “Drugs Taught Me a Lesson” is one of the best songs he has ever written, it is so open, honest and in a sick way, kinda funny, although the guy is being honest here.  There is something about ruining our lives that can make a person smile sometimes. 

On “You and I” the emotion is so thick that one literally is swept away in feelings, positive and negative, current and nostalgic.  “What is Wrong with Me?” is another lesson in downright honest songwriting that will make the listener begins to reflect on his or her own shortcomings.  At the end of the day, Dave Stewart is a brilliant songwriter and this album deserves to be heard. 

After reading this review, and my blatant kissing of his arse, I wonder why I didn’t give this one an ‘A.’  Good question.  Hmm, let’s see…ah, I’ve got it.  Not enough guitar solos.  So there ya have it…Other than that, there is nothing wrong with this one at all.  In fact, it is scary good.
