Martin Popoff, the iconic rock and roll Canadian rock scribe and all around rock God knows a thing or two about the band Rush.  Hell, he’s written a book on them, been interviewed for documentaries about them and rumor has it he has even been known to hit the links with them playing golf, although some suggest it was more about stalking the band for signed copies of their Moving Pictures LP.  Okay, I made that last part up, but suffice it to say that Popoff is a certified Rush-o-holic who knows more about the band than their own mothers. 

I have just described to you the amount of expertise that went into the WORDS that are in this book, but if you look closely at the title, one will notice that this is much, much more than just words, as this is the Illustrated History of Rush. To satisfy those who must know all there is to know, Rush: The Illustrated History is a hardcover book, measuring 9 1/2” x 11 1/4”, that is full color throughout.  It includes the story of the band right up to their Hall Of Fame induction and there are in-depth reviews of the band’s entire catalog and, as said, TONS of killer photography. 

This book is so good that in a test of the most fanatical Rush fans in the world, 99 out of 100 chose this book over hot Canadian Porn, and that, to this writer says it all.  When one would rather read a review of Fly By Night and look at pictures of Geddy Lee than naked Canadians getting their freak on that says something—well, at least I think it says something…hmm, not sure what that really says, or even means.

Ok, I confess, I made that up, but the fact remains that if you are a Rush fan then you would most likely choose this book over naked chicks, although many Rush fans may have never seen a naked chick…oh hell, this is getting complicated.  Let’s just say that this is one thorough freakin’ book that Mighty Martin has put together and leave it at that. 

Look, Popoff did a brilliant job on a brilliant band and this book covers every aspect of their career in brilliant color.  That said, the time has come for me to stop this review, as I am starting to embarrass myself.  So, do both me a favor and get into your virtual Red Barchetta and head on over to www.martinpopoff.com and buy Rush: The Illustrated History.
