Beatallica – Abbey Load
The Oglio Entertainment Group
www.oglio.com

Rating: C

This is another novelty record from the band that recreates Beatles songs in the way they would sound if they were Metallica songs.

From the cover shot of the band crossing the street, to the tongue in something title Abby Load, Beatallica are having a blast finding ways to make this odd musical vision of theirs work.  There are even lyrical references to Metallica songs hidden in the Beatles tunes, even making fun of the Metallica/Lou Reed doomed collaboration. They have Metallica down, even capturing vocalist James Hetfield’s sneering way of ending lyrical passages.

They chose great songs this time around, the best of the bunch being “Mean Mr. Mustard,” “Polythene Pam,” “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window,” “Golden Slumbers” and “Carry That Weight.”  “Come Together” is a mix of the original with an “Enter Sandman” type vibe and it starts off the album showcasing what is to come.

Okay, so I get it.  It’s pretty cool and it is very funny the first time you play it.  And it makes for a great CD to turn your friends on to.  Hell, these guys are really good.  It is just…well…is it necessary?  The answer is no, but, that said, it does not suck and it’s really funny.

File this one under albums that are rather silly but fun.  After a few spins, this one will likely collect dust but, while it’s fresh, one will enjoy the thinking outside of the box approach of Beatallica.
